Sugar form Europe and Mauritius

Two types of sugar were compared for this study, ‘sugar beet’ from Europe and cane sugar from Mauritius. In addition, True Price calculated the external environmental cots of conventional and biological sugar (for each type).

Biological sugar beet from Europe has the lowest environmental cost of € 0.48, followed by conventional sugar beet at € 0.51. The environmental costs of sugar beet production is approximately 4 times lower than that of cane sugar from Mauritius.
