Traditionally, the value that companies, banks and countries were understood to create was financial value. But times are changing. Leading companies are coming to the realization that the aim is actually to create not only economic, but also ecological and social value.
This is the theme of this year’s Max Havelaar Lecture, titled True pricing, fair banking and fair trade: managing the transition to a truly value-creating economy. It will be delivered by our Director Adrian de Groot Ruiz together with Peter Blom, CEO of Triodos Bank and leader in sustainable banking. Prof. Rob van Tulder (EUR) will set the scene by asking the question of how fair trade can change the mindset of business and introducing the book ’Managing the Transition to a Sustainable Enterprise’.
This prestigious lecture – held on the 30th of October at the Erasmus University – aims to thoughtfully contribute to the debate on poverty alleviation – with a focus on the role of the private sector and their value chains. Previous speakers have included Jeffrey Sachs and Noreena Hertz.
