True Price Celebrates New York Times Feature Highlighting the Importance of True Pricing in Building a Sustainable Future

Amsterdam, September 19, 2024 – We are thrilled to share that True Price is featured in the recent New York Times article, “The Hidden Environmental Costs of Food” by Lydia DePillis, Manuela Andreoni, and Catrin Einhorn.

This coverage marks a significant milestone for True Price, and the journey toward transforming global systems by increasing transparency on the hidden social and environmental costs of production and consumption.

It is increasingly evident that the prices we pay at the grocery store are not reflective of the true costs. These hidden costs – from greenhouse gas emissions to water depletion and biodiversity loss to underpayment of workers in the value chain – are ultimately borne by society.

In the article our Managing Director is cited: “These costs are going to be paid,” said Claire van den Broek. “They’re paid in the healthcare system, in climate adaptation mechanisms, and those will come back in taxes. It’s not like these costs are fictional.”

True Price and True Price Foundation, remain dedicated to advancing true pricing and true cost accounting, with a mission to empower people, businesses, and governments to incorporate true pricing to enable a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

Thank you so much to the NYT team for the thorough research and willingness to work through the topic and data with us and other experts. We hope this article helps further amplify our message and inspire systemic change.
